2009-2010 Season
Posted by: Linda A Punturiero
Friday, March 05, 2010

The GNCHC would like to congratulate every member of the 2009-10-hockey season for an exciting and successful season. The league would also like to offer congratulations to CW Post, winners of the 2009-10 GNCHC Championship!

Our league has been very conscious in keeping the stats of our teams and players updated throughout the season. Most stats have been posted within a week of the game, barring the reception of the home team’s scoresheet. However, due to problems with many scoresheets and numerous teams not sending in the scoresheets for some of their games, the GNCHC has completed posting all of the stats that will be posted for this season and is already looking forward to next season.

We apologize for any players’ stats that will not be posted on the website, but we wish you the best of luck next season!

GNCNC Championship Game final score:
C.W. Post 7 University of Scranton 2
Congratulation to C.W. Post
2009-10 GNCHC Champions

C.W. Post defeated defending Champions, University of Scranton, 7-2 to
win their first GNCHC Championship. Post was led by Mike Cupolo's hat
trick, Jim Rettig's goal and two assists and Will Neifeld's 22 save
performance.

With Scranton dominating the first period, Post caught a break on a
penalty kill, as Sully Sullivan made a perfect pass on a 2-1 to Cupolo to
score to give Post a lead they never relinquished. Post scored three
times in the second period, with Jim Rettig's game winning unassisted
goal sandwiched around power play goals by Shawn Hroch and Cupolo.

Scranton showed determination by scoring shorthanded 10 seconds into the
third period. James O'Donnell picked up a loose puck in the Pioneers end
and beat Neifeld with a snap shot, to cut the lead to 4-1. Less than a
minute later, Neifeld made the save of the playoffs, by poke checking the
puck away from a Scranton forward on a breakaway.

Instead of a 4-2 score, Post came back with goals from Kevin Breen,
Cupolo's third and Chris Schmidt's shorthanded goal to make it 7-1.
Thomas Austin completed the scoring for Scranton with one second
remaining.

During the weekend, Neifeld gave up a total of three goals, for a 1.00
GAA. Post scoring was led by Senior Captain's Jim Rettig's seven points
(1G 6A) and Shawn Hroch's six points (3G 3A). John Ninivaggi led the way
in the first two games with 3 goals and 2 assists for the Pioneers.
